FAQs -
Q1: What is this quilt made from?
This quilt is made from 100% linen on both sides - the top and the reverse - with soft cotton batting as the fill. Using linen throughout (rather than just on the top) means both faces of the quilt are equally breathable, textured, and temperature-regulating, making it one of the most premium fabric combinations available in handmade bedding.
Q2: What is hand box-quilting and what does it look like?
Box quilting is a technique where the quilting stitches are sewn in a regular grid pattern, dividing the quilt surface into a series of equal squares or rectangles. When done by hand - as with this quilt - each line of stitching is individually placed, which creates clean, precise lines with a subtle handmade quality that machine quilting lacks. The result is a structured, tailored-looking quilt that lies flat and retains its shape over time.
Q3: What is a flange edge and what does it look like?
A flange is a flat, unquilted border that runs around the outer edge of the quilt - on this quilt it is 3 inches wide on all four sides. Unlike a standard bound or trimmed edge, a flange frames the quilted section like a picture frame, adding a refined, hotel-quality finish that makes the quilt look more tailored and intentional on the bed. It is a design feature more commonly seen on high-end bedding than on everyday quilts.
Q4: Does linen get softer over time?
Yes - linen is one of the few bedding fabrics that genuinely improves with use and washing. With each wash, the linen fibres relax and soften without losing their structure or durability. Most linen bedding owners find that after several washes their quilt reaches a beautifully soft, lived-in quality that is difficult to replicate with new bedding - making it a worthwhile long-term investment.
Q5: Can this quilt replace a comforter or duvet in summer?
Yes - this is one of the most popular uses for this quilt. The lightweight cotton batting and breathable linen construction make it warm enough to use as a standalone cover in spring and summer without the heaviness of a full comforter or duvet. In cooler months it works as an extra layer over your existing bedding, and the lap size makes it ideal as a couch or reading throw year-round.
Q6: How do I care for a linen quilt?
This quilt is machine washable on a gentle cycle using mild detergent. [Add confirmed water temperature and drying instructions here before publishing - linen can shrink if washed in hot water, so cold or warm wash is typically recommended. Confirm whether tumble dry low is safe or if lay flat to dry is required.] Do not bleach. Linen may wrinkle naturally - this is a characteristic of the fabric and not a defect.

Matching shams are available separately in Standard (20×26"), King (20×36"), and Euro (26×26") sizes, made from the same linen fabric. If you have a specific date you need the quilt by, please include it in your order notes at checkout.
